Should've added that the real point is that NBC gave the show a
green light based on the fact that Levinson & Fontana were behind
it, and their previous body of work.

Any old dumbshit can look at their previous body of work and see
what kinds of stories L&F want to do. NBC would have to be even
stupider than it appears to be to think that they were planning
an escapist series. So why the hell would they have greenlit the
show in the first place if it wasn't what they wanted?

It's akin to hiring the Monty Python troupe to do a new sitcom,
then fire them, saying, "We wanted an intellectual comedy, but
what they had planned was silly."
