There are more answers to those questions but they don't show up until
the end of the season (series for the UK readers.)  That answer
explains a lot plus there is the fact that she's apparently been
meeting and dealing with aliens for quite a while. That presents many
op****tunities to pick up some technology, if for no other reason than
to keep it away from the general public.
