No; because he *was* rational enough to realize they were not fucking
around.  Once Ben had surrendered, they'd have had no reason to treat
Alex any different than they treated Danielle.

I've already explained that I think he mishandled the situation, but
he was at least *trying* to do the right thing - and not in the
mind-numbingly stupid way that you are suggesting he should have.


Of course, taking children hostage and threatening to kill them, does
tend to induce mind-numbing stupidity, which is why so many people do
it.  Sometimes even successfully.  But whether Ben Linus is the Good
Guy or the Bad Guy, he's not the guy you want to try that tactic on.
His mind doesn't seem to have a "numb" setting.
