First of all, I did read the entire thread and all the responses to the
main
thread and the sub-thread
To all the folks who are supportive of the poll - and I don't want to name
anyone for fear of leaving someone(s) out - THANK YOU !
But also .. THANK YOU ! as well to the folks who are skeptical about the
polls.
I believe that collectively, we achieved what we wanted, even in this one
thread and sub-thread: more discussions on Usenet. And, for both the show
and the poll, the discussions were quite substantive for the most part,
and
funny, in many cases.
Why do we watch televised fiction? To be entertained. To have fun.
Sometimes
to learn something
So why should a poll aspire for anything more "lofty" than the TV show to
which it's linked? All the polls are designed to do is to entertain, maybe
even enlighten a teeny bit.
And if the polls drive more traffic to Usenet, then all the better.
Just go take a look at alt.fan.jessica-alba and you'll see what happens
when
groups lose their traffic, for whatever reason.
Long live entertaining and enlightening traffic in both rec.arts.tv or
rec.arts.sf.tv !!!!!
And again, I extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who participates in,
reads, supports -- and opposes -- our polls. Because in the end, they are
no
more and no less than our polls and what we make of them.
It's all in the name of fun and discussion.
-George
