Maybe.  But then we need a cause other than the Island that makes pregnant
women get sick and die "normally" (because that isn't normal in most of
the rest of the world).  Even in that case, if the Island could heal them
and chooses not to do so its goodness is questionable.  This is yet
another
classic argument of action versus inaction...
