It's a Two Rivers / Manetheren Cultural Thing (tm).  Deal with it.

Aside: interesting though, I was just rereading TDR this morning and
Rand has no hesitation lopping off the heads of women while on the run
to Tear (TDR Ch36: Daughter of the Night).
