My wife just called, giving me the news. I've been dreading this for
the last couple of years, ever since I learned he was sick. While I'm
obviously missing the last book, my thoughts also go out to his
friends and family. He was clearly a good friend to many, and much
loved and appreciated. Selfishly, his books helped create this group,
with friends and conversations that helped make long grad school days
much more pleasant. He was responsive to a group of people on an
strange place called "the internet", a long time before most mass
media could even spell it.
I join my friend Jim Hill in hoisting a glass. Carai an Jordan. May
you shelter in the palm of the creator.
