I will cut to the chase since the readers of this forum likely know
all the theories on LTT and I am a pretty recent sign up.
I believe that the voice of Lews Therin in Rand's head is at least in
part a function of him entering bodily into Tel'aran'rhiod. The wise
ones have said many times that to do so would cause the person to lose
part of their soul. While Robert Jordan did state that Rand has one
soul and two personalities, I think the second personality is in part
created by a portion of himself being removed upon entering T'A'R.
Note that no other male channelers can hear voices of dead men telling
them things from the age of legends, and no other reborn heroes are
supposed to know about their previous lives (despite evidence shown by
Mat, Egwene, Nyneave, and Elayne, but I digress). Obviously all the
knowledge is retained from these dead heroes SOMEWHERE, otherwise
Brigette would not remember all her previous lives when she is in
T'A'R or when she is thrust from the pattern. Whether it is retained
in Rand and unlocked by the the 'in the flesh' trips to T'A'R, or
retained in T'A'R and impressed upon him to fill in the gaps of
himself that are lost upon entering T'A'R in the flesh, it is the same
end.
