No.  The story got away from him, plain and simple.  It happens.

If he'd purely wanted to make money, the best way would be to _finish_
the series, then start a new one, or generate spin-offs, while pu****ng
the Wheel of Time to Hollywood.  The lack of an ending made it less
marketable to movie-makers.
