Note that he didn't say "plausible".  He said "most plausible",
as in "least implausible".  Trek-style or HHGttG-style FTL
isn't the least implausible.

As to the absolute (as opposed to relative) plausibility of FTL IRL,
cosmology has phenomena that are effectively FTL (eg, inflation).  "Ah,
but that can't be turned into a 'drive'" I hear you say.  Eh, small matter
of engineering.  The point is, GR (as the best-so-far model of large scale
spacetime) does have situations where globally-effectively-FTL occurs.
Which renders the plausiblity of exploiting it just a teeny bit better
than infinitessimal.  It's merely extremly-miniscule.
