Yes of course YMMV and to each their own.
My problem with King is that reading his books can feel like speeding
on the highway but in first gear, against a strong headwind and
feeling impatient
getting to your goal. The horror genre doesn't interest me much
either.
He writes like he gets paid by the word so he shovels it at you by the
truckload.
The same is true for me with Piers Anthony and Xanth.
I like quality words more than quantity.
Writers that can make few words say volumes and fire the imagination.
Roger Zelazny is a prime example. A true artist with words and
colorful imagery
Alan Moore who could make a single word or two unforgettable and chill
and thrill.
"Burn", "Yesterday" "Killing Time" just to name a few.
I bet that even if you haven't read him in years you know what stories
I am referring too.
So unless King wrote something that has to go on the "Must read before
you die" list.
I can move on to other writers or books. There is plenty out there
that will take several
lifetimes to read. We have no choice but to be selective.
and with King, the movies are usually better than the novels, and
faster
I recently seen The Mist, do I still need to read the book?
