Most superheroic crimestopping takes place with victims who survive
thanks to the hero.  (It is true that Spider-Man has been known to
stop bad guys under cir***stances where there are no witnesses, but
those guys do go free quite a lot.  It's been commented on. But then
it's not as if Spider-Man's testimony would necessarily help much in
convicting them anyway.)
