BAG OF BONES didn't grab me the first time through, because I think I
was expecting something else. But I've reread it a couple of times,
and found it very involving and richly-written.

Yeah, it's a little too weirdly metaphysical for my tastes. Some of
his short stories get that way for me -- thought "Twentieth Century
Ghost" is wonderful -- but I'm similarly eager for his next novel.
