I went to this bookstore in Calcutta (India), and asked if they had
SF. They pointed to a shelf which was filled with science (non-
fiction), SF, and Fantasy books. Mostly they had old SF books by
Isaac Asimov and others. The fantasy was also old like Terry P. and
Robert J.
I found another much bigger bookstore, and in it I found a shelf
labeled 'Sci-Fi and Fantasy'. They had mostly Fantasy, with some
Isaac Asimov and Arthur Clarke.
It seems that Fantasy is a lot more popular now, than it was in say
the 1980s. Is this correct? Is classic SF very popular in your area
also?
Now that I am busy working full time as a manager (IT), I am much more
particular about what I read. It is no longer enough just to have a
good story. I want to learn something from reading the book. That is
why I am reading more and more non-fiction.
What recent SF books are there, from which you learnt something? I
found Michael C.'s book Next to fit into this category.
