The Hows of Time Travel and FTL

by Sea Wasp <seawaspObvious@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Feb 12, 2008 at 08:28 AM

Various discussions, and my discovery that they have not yet,
apparently, driven a stake completely through Heim Theory (someone
sent me a message mentioning this, and it appears the guy who had
thought he discovered a fatal weakness has, on further examination,
retracted that statement), leads me to ask a question I've never
actually asked before:

It's an accepted fact under most current understanding that FTL
drives = Time Travel. But what I'd like to know is exactly how that
would work.

Let's say that I have an FTL ****p and I want to go back in time to
1960, before I was born. To assign some numbers, let's assume the
drive I have can go to 100C -- by which I mean that if I start with an
outside observer, my ****p, and a photon emitter all at rest with
respect to each other, and I switch on my drive for one second (assume
inertialess behavior, for these purposes), then from the observer's
point of view one second later I'm 100 light-seconds away, while a
photon emitted at the same time I switched on the drive (from the
observers POV) is received at a detector only one light-second away.

Given these conditions, how would I go back in time so as to be able
to potentially involve myself in terrible paradoxes?
