We did occasionally get to see the moonbase girls without their purple
wigs; Gay Ellis in "Close-Up" and Nina Barry in "Sub-Smash" and
"Confetti Check A-OK". Can't recall if we ever did so for Joan
Harrington.
ISTR a rather dubious explanation for the wigs as being some sort of
protection against cosmic rays to the brain, although what this
implies about the men on moonbase (who didn't wear them) doesn't bear
thinking about.
Anyway, the best of the UFO girls (IMHO) was the one played by Ayshea
Brough (Lt Johnson?), and, being earth-based, she didn't wear one of
those wigs.
