I plucked Stratosfear hoping to stay in that early era. If I'm allowed
to stretch a little, a bit of Force Majeure, and (to my surprise) the
first bit of Cyclone (really!). I'd go with Green Desert over both of
those if you count it as rooted in/inspired by 1973 rather than it's
formal release in the mid-80s.

That's a good one. Similar to you, I like less of their stuff
moving forward, but I do think 1985's Le Parc is pretty good.
My favorite of all is Thief (original release, with "Confrontation"
on there).
