Overloaded Novels

by mimus <tinmimus99@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Feb 16, 2008 at 01:21 AM

John Brunner was the world's worst at this, and Vance did it once (in _To
Live Forever_), and it drives me nuts, which is to say, basing a novel on
an interesting concept fully enough to keep a novel occupied with all its
implications and the play of its characters and plots against it, _and
then_ adding another, only strainedly-related concept, which makes a final
hash of things.

"Keep it clean, people", indeed.

A paradox, and thy own brain.
