I've been trying to think of series for a while; it had at least 2
books in it. One world is a technological dystopia that has discovered
dimensional travel; they send "actors" to a semi-medieval, magical
world where they do exciting things that get filmed (example, they're
told to go in and become a spy, so that they get filmed as being James
Bond; the inhabitants of that world don't know anything about this,
but have gotten hints at some sort of conspiracy/cult called "Aktirs"
who are causing trouble for their own purposes).
The most popular of these actors is named Cain, who ends up falling in
love with some goddess in the other world; in the second novel, he's
crippled but by sheer awesomeness(tm)/plot points discovers he can
overcome his injuries by force of will, and fights the evil CEO of the
company that sends in the actors.
