Space opera of the up-market kind (Banks, Vinge, Niven, in their prime).

Good ScF in general - the shelves round here are all loaded with 
Star-wars-trek-Dr-Who derivatives, and Kevin-J-Anderson-Herbert 
Pre-Se-Quels. And Fantasy, which proudly announces 'Book1 of the 
<%noun%> saga' .. No fear, RJ and GRRM have cured me of that nonsense.

Humour .. bring back intelligent ScF humour.
