Dungeons and Dragons. Its magic system was ripped almost straight from the
Cugel books - wizards who can impress a certain small number of spells
into
their heads, or fewer ones of greater power, and have to stuff them back
in
there after they've been cast once. Plus having a lot of them named after
the
person/character who invented the spell, and having a motley collection of
spells that do all sorts of different stuff at each 'level' of spell.
