Obligatory A. C. Clarke story reference in the news: Who remembers the
"White Hart" story about how Harry Purvis prevented the evacuation of
southern England? "Critical Mass", a short story in the collection, tells

what happens when a group of scientists are sitting in a pub near their
Atomic Energy Research Establishment, and the landlord spots a truck
descending a hill out of control, apparently carrying crates from the
plant?
There is a crash. They break open, a strange aura is seen, the driver
runs
like hell to get away, and ...

A brief news story found in the London Times Tuesday:
Bees on the loose

SACRAMENTO Twelve million bees escaped after an articulated lorry carrying

crates of the insects overturned on Highway 99 in California, police said.

Officers and firefighters were stung by some of the bees as they tried to
deal with the accident. (AP)
