I use http://news.individual.net
for news. It is good and fairly
inexpensive (10 euro/year) for text-only access. There are also a
couple of free ones, aioe.org and motzarella.org you can use. They are
fairly well regarded, but I've heard that they might not be as reliable
as NIN. If you want binaries too, then you'll be looking at $5 - $10
per month, depending on service and bandwidth.
Most news services can be used with a wide variety of newsreaders. I
doubt trn is any problem.
