The place I know to start with Erikson's fantasy is Gardens of the Moon,
his
first Malazan book. He may have other starting points but I don't know
about
them. Wiki notes that the series can also be started with the second or
the
fifth book, to which I agree after a bit of thought - the amount of 'wait,
who is THIS, and what are they doing here?' is probably about equal...
