I'm not that thrilled by Walden's, but I've always liked Borders better
than
B&N.  I've never understoold their market strategy vis-a-vis my state
though.
They have some Waldens, but they've never moved a "real" Borders into SC.
Now, you can make jokes like "why would they serve a 5 reader market..",
but
you could make the same jokes about Augusta GA a smaller city just 70
miles
from the much bigger, and unbordered Columbia SC.

By waiting, they let B&N sew up all the good spots in the hot retail
areas,
and Books-a-Million sew up the almost-as-good spots.  Combining that with
their apparent inability to run their own online operation, and I have to
wonder about their management..
