I subscribed to a fanzine maybe 30 years ago, in which Poul Anderson
had a column called "Beer Mutterings" (or something close).    I still
remember an article where he discusses how a word-smith like him found
his tools taken away by changes in the language.   He specifically
talked about losing the word "gay", and switching to an archaic
spelling of the word "fairy".     An English author who wants to sell
to America needs to be cognisant of how we will read "he put a faggot
to his lips".

That doesn't mean there's an excuse for renaming _Harry Potter and the
Philosopher's Stone_.    Idiots.
