Why didn't you tell me about this before?

When I first read one of the Queendom of Sol novels (which was 
The Wellstone -- I got it basically on a whim) I enjoyed it, and was a 
touch annoyed that nobody had told me before that it was a book with 
some neat technologies and social changes that sounded fun [1].  

	So I'm curious: what's the most recent book you read which had 
you wondering why nobody told you about it before?  


	[1]  It's quite likely that it was mentioned around here, but 
I have remarkable powers of being oblivious.  Also, actually, a set of 
strong unsolicited recommendations from friends would probably have put 
me off reading the books, since my friends haven't got a great track 
record in predicting what I'd like.  I mean this exercise to carry on 
as if that weren't an influence.
