That's been my summary of the situation as well.

I missed the enormous visual *presence* of Lynch's version -- that's
one thing he did well. (If not necessarily *faithfully*.)

So the third incarnation will have to get *everything* wrong... or
everything right? Neither of those outcomes is really imaginable.
