Amazon lists any book that has an ISBN and a publication date; it means
nothing. Those systems are entirely automatic.
(Publication dates can, and do, change very often, and some publishers
have systems that require some date be entered even if that date is
entirely fictional.)
Also, the fact that an author that forthcoming and communicative with
his fans hasn't said "I finished it" should be a major clue.
