Oh, probably <The Time Traveler's Wife>.  Which is obviously a strange
thing to say about such a ballyhooed book, but I mean, why hadn't rasfw 
or anyone else I know via spec-fic told me about it before?  (And to be 
fair, I gather Rich Horton had, when I wasn't paying attention.)

My habit of looking for buried treasure in the paperback market is a
form of this; I mean, why on Earth did I first find out about Naomi
Kritzer from this habit rather than from here or gossip or whatever?
And I even lived in her hometown at the time!

There are several writers in my last year's booklog that I was really
floored to be the first to post about here, at anything longer than
an entry in a list.  Let's see, which can I reconstruct ...  OK,
Amanda Hemingway, Holly Phillips, Darieck Scott, Sonya Taaffe, and
Catherynne Valente.  I'd get rude about the fact that Scott is both
black and gay, while all the others are women, except that I 
consciously read way more books by women last year than normal for me,
so it wouldn't really be fair; but I do note that my major (white and/
or straight) male finds from similar reaches (Keith Donohue and Hal 
Duncan last year, Kevin Brockmeier this year) failed to qualify.
(But to be *quite* fair, it's usually Rich Horton responsible for 
someone else having beaten me to it.)
