Hey, are we back on topic?

I didn't post earlier because of all the authors I love, all were 
recommended here (for which I thank everyone involved).

But later (after the thread drifted into un-funny movies), I did
remember a book I really liked but didn't hear about here:
Frances Hardinge, _Fly By Night_ 
This is a juvenile novel, maybe fantasy.  The disclaimer reads:

"This is not a historical novel.  It is a yarn.  Although the Realm
is based roughly on England at the start of the eighteenth century,
I have taken appalling liberties with historical authenticity and,
when I felt like it, the laws of physics."

I really loved the prose, which is odd since I usually prefer not
to notice the prose int he first place.
