Doesn't sound likely. He was a genuine firebrand, and led the 
Virginia militia during the Gunpowder Affair. He was very 
high on the list of people likely to be hanged if the war was 
lost.

Of all the ****-stirrers who really got the American 
Revolution going, the most significant were Henry and Sam 
Adams, with some good pamphleteering by Paine. These guys, 
more than anyone, created the revolution.
