I was wondering if anyone might have an idea of the title and author
of
an old science fiction novel I read long in the long ago back in the
60's when I was around 10 or 11, (I'm 53 now.)
It was a paperback and I remember nether the title nor the author, the
plot, as best I can recall it, was that aliens were invading earth and
their first move was to hit the earth with
something that was suppose to finish off all humans by turning them
into metal, however it only worked part of the way and people living
high enough off the ground such as high-rise apartments found
themselves turned into metal humans. (seriously)
After recovering from the shock of discovering their new condition
resistance to the invaders then ensues.
I don't really remember much of it, other than the basic plot, and
this one scene when the male and female protagonists are leaving the
tall apartment complex they were in and stop along the way looking for
other survivors, in one apartment, half of the way to the ground, they
find a man who seems to be an immobile statue, save for the silver
eyes in his head that track back and forth with a clicking sound, my
10 - 11 year old non-metal minds eye retains that mental image to his
day, I also seem to recall something about giant monster pigeons!
I was just wondering if anyone has any idea what the title of that
book have been and who the author of that was.
