It's interesting that you would mention Heracles, since he was the
result of a selective breeding program designed to create a hero.
Actually, Heracles was an amalgam of several heroes bred from great
warriors or winners of games. If the child was a girl, it was kept
within the temple to breed future heroes. If the child was a boy, it
was fostered into the community to make his own way.
It is interesting that the Delphian games were the earliest, sacred to
Apollo and Athena. They focused on poetry, philosophy and music. When
the Olympics were founded, sacred to Zeus, athletic and martial
competitions were incor****ated.
OBSF, Frank Herbert patterned the Bene Gesserit after the classical
Greco-Roman breeding programs, though he incor****ated facets of other
cultures.
