I know this is r.a.sf._written_, but did anybody understand anything
about 'Southland Tales', the movie?
Theoretically it is pure SF territory - time travel, dystopia,
oppressive government...
In practice - since when is ragging on Republicans an accepted
substitute for having a plot that goes somewhere?
That's the second disastrous movie I watch in a few weeks from a
director I like and I'm tired of reviewers claiming that nay-sayers
like me are just too dumb to get it and that we are finally breaking
free of dumb mass market movies.
If a movie has an incomprehensible and/or pointless plot, does that
mean that it is a deep movie? Are we all going to sing the praises of
the emperor's new clothes?
I think books have a harder time being sold on these premises.
