Not Roddenberry?  Or do only living persons count?
If mean, which authors in mostly-text media... that's a good
question.  I'm not sure I could name somebody a non-fan would recognize,
who's still living.

But even in written works, the non-fan is going to be aware of trek,
wars, and maybe aliens/predators/whatnot spinoffs.  None of which have
consistent authors, so they'd remember the franchise originator, I expect.
Whedon would be known, but mostly for Buffy I expect.  How many would
know he also did Firefly and Serenity, or care?  I thought Serenity fell
over kind of flat non-fan-public-perception-wise.
