There's a whole different universe in the game world, too.  I remember
seeing a two page spread touting a game that was a civilization simulation
of the colonization of Alpha Centauri (or something like that).  Strange
enough that it was in (I think) Popular Science.  Even stranger that
they were touting some author/game architect in a mode that indicated
that they expected everybody would know who he was.  Sid [something]?

And since then, the Myst and Halo series.  I couldn't name the head
developer of Halo, despite the (local, Seattle) media coverage, but
millions of gamers could.
