Bouncing off Poul Anderson

Random thoughts:

His writing style is good, but  he refuses to provide a "hook" to keep
me reading, I start wondering what the point of the whole exercise is,
and get irritated at all the "detailing" going on. Any one else have
the same problem?

Yet if I plough through, the pay off is good and  his ideas and actual
story is revealed to be quite neat.  (judging by what I finished ie
"Call me  Joe"
