Spoken output, plus display screens of some sort. I don't recall
an incident of hardcopy output, though I expect there was at least one.

Well, in both fiction and reality, front panel blinkenlights were pretty
common pretty early, and arguably are a "monnitor" in the sense that
it's an ephemeral display rather than ... oh, say, dots or imprints on
tickertape of some kind.  And from there you've got your seven segement
displays, and then alphanumerics, and so on.

Or alternatively, one could consider "monitors" to predate any hardcopy
output, if you could mechanically movable ephemeral displays, which is
pretty much what mechanical calculators, and iirc the difference engine
design, had.
