I have a distinct recollection of at leat one episode where Spock took a
hardcopy from a slot at his bridge station.

Then there's Diane Duane's _Spock's World_ where Bones is doing a public
records search from the Vulcan Science Academy Library and deliberately
requests hardcopy output.  (He also requests a data solid with the same
information.)  He could have had the _Enterprise_ computer do a downlink
and request the data that way, but he wanted to be less conspicuous.  So
he went in person, used a public kiosk, got his printouts, and did a
vgrep while eating lunch.
