F&SF That I Read in 2007: S (Part One)

by jdnicoll@[EMAIL PROTECTED] (James Nicoll) Apr 26, 2008 at 01:37 PM

Title Author Publication
                                                            Date

THE WELL OF ASCENSION Sanderson, Brandon 8/1/2007

The sequel to MISTBORN, in which our heroes have to deal
with the consequences of having won in the previous book.

EARTHSEED Sargent, Pamela 1/2/2007

FARSEED Sargent, Pamela 3/1/2007

Two related novels about an interstellar colonization
effort. In the first, we see the colonists, who are created and
raised on the ****p just in time for planetfall and in the second
we see that at least where one set of colonists is concerned, you
don't get sweet fruit from poisoned seeds.

THE QUEEN OF CANDESCENCE Schroeder,Karl 8/1/2007

The second in the Virga series, set in a planet-sized habitat.
In this the unlikable but determined Venera Fanning finds herself sucked
into the revolutionary politics of one of the many vaguely dystopian
communities in Virga.

THE SECRET HISTORY OF VAMPIRES Schweitzer, Darrell 4/1/2007

This is an anthology in which vampires run into various historical
figures. I have no memory of it.

STAR TREK: THE ACADEMY: Shatner, William
COLLISION COURSE

A young James T. Kirk meets Spock for the first time.

I could have sworn they met on the Enterprise? AH, well. It's
only Trek. It didn't suck half as much as the Secret Origin of the
Romulans books do.

BREAKAWAY Shepherd, Joel 4/1/2007

This is the second in the Cassandra Kreznov books, which detail
the adventures of an android whose desire not to be used as cannon-fodder
leads her to defect from an actively malevolent society to one that is
merely bigoted.

CODE OF CONDUCT Smith, Kristine 11/9/1999

RULES OF CONFLICT Smith,Kristine 1/1/2000

LAW OF SURVIVAL Smith, Kristine 1/1/2001

CONTACT IMMINENT Smith, Kristine 1/1/2003

ENDGAME Smith, Kristine 11/1/2007

This is a five part series about a woman whose experimental
treatment after suffering serious injury leaves her as a crucial
player in human/alien relations.
