I did make it all the way through the Baroque Cycle. I found that book 2
was
considerably less detailed and had more "movement", and book 3 was even
more
adventurous and exciting. Book 3 had some cool revelations, most of which
caught me completely off guard. My favorite revelation involved a
thief-catcher, that's all I'll say here.
I loved those books, so did my mom. At one time I was thinking of writing
a
review, but then I would have less time to other things that I enjoy doing
more.
At no point during the Baroque Cycle did I find myself uttering the 8
deadly
words. But I did consider quitting about 1/2 way through book 1, for the
same reasons you mention below.
