This is such a shame;  I thought SHAMAN'S CROSSING was a truly
excellent book.  I was surprised at how much I liked it.  Imagine my
disappointment when I couldn't even get through FOREST MAGE.  It was
painful to read;  and not in a good way.  In a "what the hell is she
thinking?" kind of way.

How can Hobb be suched a skilled writer, get so much in the first book
so right, and then collapse so spectacularly?
