Yes... and in books 3 and 4, one group of bad guys has a mechanical
projectile weapon that (in some ways) outperforms the magical projectiles
the good guys use.

Well... I use "bad guys" and "good guys" as terms of convenience; the
actual goodness and badness is somewhat reversed... sort of, sometimes.
And when not reversed, can get a bit muddled.  Which is another good
feature of the series, IMO.

Plus, the old "things secured against magic can be accessed mundanely
if you're not careful about it", and related "overlook the low-tech
and/or low-magic solution" kinds of things.

But even so... furycrafting has the advantage of not needing
nearly so large an infrastructure for most equivalent results.
