I think it was a toasted cheese sandwich, possibly after it was eaten.

I also remember the protagonists battling the evil force on a Ring
World, which the evil force had taken over part of.

I also remember the evil force taking over the minds of farm animals and
causing them to fight against the planet's dominant race.
