This is the start of a prequel series to her six-book Sun Sword series,
letting us know how the protagonist got to where she was and collected her
"den" of associates in the first place. I paid for hardcover because I
think
she's worth it.

Couldn't just leave the kids on the run/on vacation forever, plus we
needed
