Heh. For Christmas this year I sent my four step-nieces/nephews, who last
year
I was rather unaware of, four series-starting books: Half Magic, Sabriel,
So You Want To Be A Wizard?, and the first double-book in the Chrestomanci
Chronicles. I have no idea yet how well, if at all, any of them were
received.

(Unfortunately, my -actual- niece and nephew practically live in a used
bookstore, operated by my brother, so are somewhat harder to shop for.)
