Just to be on the record -- since I'm enjoying how the thread
is turning out and picking up neat stories that maybe I actually will
get the chance to read -- my only real intent with the limitations was
to avoid stories where someone is ripped away from her body and tries
mightily to get back to it, with the question of whether real or
virtual existence is preferable left as an unexamined assumption.

Although, come to think of it, I can only think of one novel
that nearly fits that, and that's not a real match -- Justin Leiber's
_Beyond Rejection_. (Brain-dumped into a new body, Protagonist goes
in search of her original body, which she's sentimentally attached to
what with it having been male and all his for his life up to that
point and not having a tail.)

Anyway, I'm generally in favor of treating subject lines or
the original-post parameters as a starting point, and letting the
actual subject expand to fit. So, you know, expand-the-focus away.
