There's some story or novel by A. E. van Vogt where the population of
the earth is down to six individuals floating as infants in mechanical
wombs, and one decides to return to life, and the others get wiped out
by alien invaders, who the one then defeats, and then recreates
mankind.  I think.

Not quite cyberspace, but I think it would be circa 1950 and have
priority.
