If true, he could not have become so good at piano.  As you will
recall, by the time he gets out of the loop he is at a pro level on
keys.  The same might be said for the ice sculpting ability?

As for writing, he could not carry any partial stories with him except
in his head.  I seem to recall that Orson Scott Card found some way to
carry information about the lost time line forward in Pastwatch: the
Redemption of Christopher Columbus, but I can't remember what they
did.
